Mumbai Press Club Statement on Custodial Death of Writer Mushtaq Ahmed
Type: Press Release | Published Date: 03 Mar 2021The death in custody of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in a Bangladesh prison for a Facebook post that criticised the country’s handling of the Covid 19 pandemic is one of a growing number of instances of intolerance of governments to any sort of public criticism. Ahmed was in pre-trial detention for nine months.
Mumbai Press Club joins in condemning the incarceration of both and Ahmed’s subsequent death. We are in full solidarity with the writers and artists community of Bangladesh and ask that Kishore be released, and an enquiry be held into Ahmed’s death. For the Managing Committee, Hon.
